Authorities in Fredericksburg detain a woman accused of killing her three housemates in a "heinous crime."

On Thursday night, authorities detained a 23-year-old woman who they believe killed her three housemates in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Her roommates were all in their 60s and 70s.

Spotsylvania native Alyssa Jane Venable is accused of three charges of second-degree murder and using a handgun while committing a crime, according to a news release from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

Venable was taken into custody by New York State Police troopers at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Thursday following a fast-moving vehicle pursuit in Steuben County, New York, according to authorities. When they attempted to conduct a traffic check, Venable was seen by the police driving a gray 2009 Honda Civic.

Police used a tire deflation device on the vehicle when it refused to stop, which led to an accident. Officials stated in the report that

"police will be obtaining a fugitive warrant for Venable and arrangements for extradition will be forthcoming."

At approximately 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Fredericksburg sheriff's officers were summoned to a residence in the 10500 block of White Street Court to conduct a welfare check. When deputies entered, they discovered the bodies of three individuals—a lady and two men—who had suffered from upper-body injuries, according to the authorities. Authorities released an update on Thursday,

identifying the three deceased as Gregory Scott Powell, 60, Carol Anne Reese, 65, and Robert John McGuire, 77.

The sheriff's office mentioned Venable and stated,

"After further investigation and evidence collection, it was discovered that a roommate had committed this heinous crime."

Detectives are actively following leads and continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the killings. Please contact the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office at 540-582-7115 if you have any information. According to the sheriff's office, the authorities are hiding some details about the murder "so as not to interfere with the ongoing investigation."
