June 12, DUBAI (Reuters) - At least 41 people have died as a result of a fire that started early on Wednesday at a building housing employees in the southern Kuwaiti city of Mangaf, according to Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, deputy prime minister of the nation, who visited the scene. The deputy prime minister said that greed and other infractions committed by real estate owners were factors in the occurrence. "Sadly, these issues stem from the greed of real estate developers," Sheikh Fahad, who also oversees the defence and interior ministries, stated.

Major General Eid Rashed Hamad stated that the fire was reported to the authorities at 6:00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT). "Workers were housed in the building where the fire broke out, and there were a lot of them there. While many people were saved, many died as a result of breathing in smoke from the fire, a top police commander regrettably stated to state television. He stated, "We always alert and warn against" packing too many workers into housing units, but he omitted to mention the nature of the jobs or the workers' country of origin.

Authorities reported that the fire had been contained and that they were looking into what started it.
